"One of L.A. most Famous Investigator"

Thomas Barnes L.A. Private Eye

Thomas Barnes began his investigative career in the early 1980’s while still working as a detective for the city of Downey, a suburb of Los Angeles. Shortly thereafter, Thomas was retired from the police department due to a duty related vehicle accident. During his time at Downey Police Department, Thomas was mainly involved in criminal investigations.

As a Detective, Thomas was involved in several high profile cases. One case involved a Nursing Home where 21 suspicious deaths had taken place. Thomas was responsible for the investigation and resolution of this highly charged case.

Part of Tom’s work after retirement was running a number of medical facilities with over 800 employees and a budget of over 20 million dollars. His job was to investigate corruption and patient abuse.

Prior to his employment with the Downey Police Department, Tom served in the Navy as a Mixed Gas Saturation Navy Diver with two tours in Vietnam. With his extensive law enforcement background he was recruited for federal law enforcement (United States Coast Guard,) where he worked at the U.S. Attorney's Office in Los Angeles. Thomas managed local law enforcement, working with the Coast Guard and helping to write the “local threat assessment” for the Coastal Region including the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.

Thomas then became the Coast Guard Liaison to the U.S. Navy, Mobil Inshore Undersea Warfare Unit (MIUW).  He worked covert drug diversion in the Caribbean with specialized units of the Navy, using the Coast Guard to enforce drug intervention. LT. Barnes was successful in the integration of the MIUW Unit with the Coast Guard patrol craft for interdiction.   In September of 1990 Tom was called to active duty by the Coast Guard at the request of the Navy, as their Liaison Officer for the Saudi Arabian Frontier Forces in Desert Shield/Storm.  Tom worked with the Saudi Police and Federal Law Enforcement becoming the Senior Coast Guard Staff Officer for the Port Security Unit for the Port Of Dammam in Saudi Arabia. Tom retired from the Military as a highly decorated Officer.

Upon his return home, Thomas continued with his Private Investigation Firm which now was featured in several news articles, and appearances on TV and talk radio. Thomas was also featured in the television show Unsolved Mysteries, where he was highlighted for his investigative skills in serial murder cases nationwide.

Tom has continued with his public duties, including his appointment to the Los Angeles County Beach Commission of which he chaired, as well as the Chairmanship of the Local Planning Commission.

Thomas is frequently asked to be a media consultant and restricts his cases to high profile investigations.
